About ERFEG

The Department of Environmental Resources and Forest Engineering is one of eight academic units at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry. In February 1996, the name of the department was changed from Forest Engineering to Environmental Resources and Forest Engineering. This name change is meant to better reflect the breadth and strength of the engineering education offered by the department.

The undergraduate program in Forest Engineering originated at ESF in 1971. With over 800 graduates now in engineering practice, this unique program offers a breadth of engineering science and design coursework unparalleled in the United States. Required coursework in science and mathematics, engineering, natural resources, humanities, and social sciences ensures a well-balanced educational experience for graduates entering professional practice in engineering or those moving directly on to graduate school.

The Forest Engineering undergraduate program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET).

Through the program in environmental and resource engineering, the Faculty participates in graduate education leading to the master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees. Graduate studies and research are primarily concerned with environmental and resource related programs. Individual programs of graduate study may be designed by and for students with bachelor of science degrees in engineering or forestry, geography, natural sciences, physics, or mathematics. Programs of study can also be designed for students with bachelor of science degrees in other disciplines, with special attention to building competence in physics, mathematics, and other courses that are important to the students graduate study goals.

More specific information about the undergraduate and graduate programs of Forest Engineering is contained in the Education Programs section of the Environmental Resources and Forest Engineering Web Pages.
